My mum and I just stumbled across the new Acne store in Amsterdam. It was beautiful and we spoke to the most charming young girl. She told us that the Swedish brand’s architect had tried to make the store ‘like Amsterdam’. Clearly, the architect succeeded. The mezzanine level, the wooden floor boards and the iron spiral staircase are the perfect setting for the asymmetric, beautifully tailored collection. She was disappointed that they were yet to receive women’s accessories but the shop was a joy to be in and it is in the heart of the 9 Straats – the equivalent of the North Laines in Brighton or Camden Passage in the Angel. What was really amazing was that unlike in bigger cities like London or Paris, the cool girl in the new cool shop was really sweet and friendly, not – as you’d might expect else where – pretentious and rude. The collection was superb. And it’s great for Amsterdam to have such a great shop.
